‘KuklArt’ Magazine
Issue 8/2014

Dear reader,
This issue, which we made together with the young colleague Mihail Baykov, is the result of the constant ambition of KuklArt to attract young fellow theatre critics to the cause of puppet theatre. That is why we have dedicated this issue to the young. Practically, their texts fill the pages of the magazine. At the same time, we wanted as many of them as possible to be translated into English, so that their names would become recognizable abroad as well. Among the authors there are those who write their first texts in general, and not only for puppet theater. We are convinced that this ‘investment’ is productive, that it portends a better future for our puppet theater critics.
The discussion pathos of most of the texts is also sought. They continue the controversy about the relationship between the actor and the doll, about the actor in front of the screen, who increasingly displacing the doll, etc. This controversy is old, but with constant relevance. Is it possible for the puppet theatre to exist in its hitherto defined field, or is ‘this’ theatre dying to give birth to a new one? Is the sinusoid the curve of the rebirth and ‘dying’ of the familiar puppet theatre? Or is a descending line – a sign of doom…
The third ace in our hand is the expanded volume of information from abroad – theory, conversations, information. The efforts of our class lose some of their meaning if they are not comparable to the efforts of our colleagues around the world.
The fourth ace is you, reader…
